Shopify CAPI sends your paid orders to Meta from a server, not the shopper's browser. The DataCops Shopify app sends every paid order as a Purchase to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, LinkedIn, Microsoft Ads, Reddit, Pinterest and X, including Shop Pay and Apple Pay checkouts, so ad blockers stop costing you sales in your reports.

What is Shopify CAPI?

Shopify CAPI is Shopify tracking that sends store events, above all the paid order, to Meta through the Conversions API from a server instead of from a pixel in the shopper's browser. A browser pixel can be blocked, can miss an express checkout and loses the shopper when the tab closes early. A server event comes from the order itself, so the ad platform hears about the sale either way.

DataCops does this with the DataCops Shopify app. Shopify tells DataCops when an order is paid, and DataCops sends it as a Purchase, with value and currency, to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, LinkedIn, Microsoft Ads, Reddit, Pinterest and X. Its Web Pixel inside Shopify adds the steps before the sale: add to cart, checkout, payment info and search.

DataCops sends every paid Shopify order server-side as a Purchase to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, LinkedIn, Microsoft Ads, Reddit, Pinterest and X, express checkouts included, with the shopping steps before it.

Who needs Shopify server-side tracking

Stores whose ad platforms report fewer sales than Shopify does.

DTC brands on Meta

Meta keeps under-reporting purchases, so it learns from a fraction of your buyers.

Stores with express checkout

Shop Pay and Apple Pay orders that a browser pixel never saw now reach your ads.

Shopify stores on Klaviyo

The same install makes abandoned cart flows fire for returning shoppers.

Agencies running Shopify ads

One setup per store sends orders to every ad account the client uses.

Why Shopify tracking misses sales

Why your ads see fewer Shopify orders than you do

The order is in Shopify. The ad platform just never heard about it.

How DataCops sends Shopify orders to your ads

Four steps from the ad click to a Purchase on every platform you connected.

  1. Step 01
    Saved on yourdomain.com
    fbclid from Meta Kept
    gclid from Google Ads Kept
    ttclid from TikTok Kept
Kept for up to 90 days

The shopper clicks your ad. DataCops keeps the click ID on your own domain for up to 90 days.

  2. Step 02
    Visitor
    Safari · ad blocker on
    Recognized, returning visitor

They come back and shop. The Web Pixel reports cart, checkout and payment steps.

  3. Step 03
    Finding the ad click again
    Won dealby email or phone
    Ad click, 23 days earlierMatched

The order is paid. Shopify tells DataCops, which finds the shopper's session and click.

  4. Step 04
    Won deal sent
    Meta Sent once
    Google Ads Sent once
    TikTok Sent once
    LinkedIn Sent once

DataCops sends one Purchase, with value, to each platform. Pixel and webhook never double count.

The paid order comes from Shopify's server, so no browser can block it.

What changes after you install

Before

  • Meta and Google miss orders from shoppers with ad blockers
  • Shop Pay and Apple Pay orders vanish from your ads
  • A shopper who buys 10 days after the click has no click left in Safari
  • Bots add to cart and your ads learn from them
  • A new ad account starts with nothing
  • You cannot tell what was sent

After

  • Every paid order is sent from Shopify, blocker or not
  • Express checkout orders are sent like any other
  • The click ID is kept on the server for up to 90 days
  • Real people only, switched on per platform, keeps flagged visits out
  • Ads Warmup sends your past customers on day one
  • A log shows every send and the reason it was held or skipped
Events

What Shopify server-side tracking sends

Shopify events arrive in two ways: the paid order from Shopify's own order webhook, and the shopping steps from the DataCops Web Pixel that runs inside Shopify. DataCops turns each into the standard event name your ad platforms expect.

Order paid becomes Purchase

Sent from Shopify to DataCops when payment is captured, with the order value and currency. Nothing in the browser can block it, and express checkouts count too.

Product added to cart becomes AddToCart

Reported by the DataCops Web Pixel inside Shopify, then sent to your ad platforms from the DataCops server.

Checkout started becomes InitiateCheckout

Sent when the shopper opens checkout, with the cart value.

Payment info submitted becomes AddPaymentInfo

The step between checkout and the paid order.

Search submitted becomes Search

What shoppers typed into your store search.

Product viewed becomes Viewed Product

Goes to Klaviyo for browse abandonment only. Your ad platforms do not get product views.

Shopify tracking that also fixes your Klaviyo flows

The same install feeds Klaviyo. Klaviyo can only email a shopper it recognises, and its browser cookie lasts about 7 days. A shopper who comes back later adds to cart as a stranger, so your abandoned cart flow never starts.

DataCops remembers returning shoppers for up to 400 days and sends Viewed Product, Added to Cart and Started Checkout to Klaviyo from its server, on the right profile. Orders and your catalog keep coming from Shopify's own Klaviyo app, so nothing is counted twice.

The real cost

A cheap Shopify tracking setup is not cheap

The monthly fee is the smallest part. What a weak setup costs you is what it misses and what it teaches your ads.

  • Sales it never sends. Blocked pixels and express checkouts that never reach Meta or Google, so the platform learns from a fraction of your buyers.
  • Bots it passes along. Bot sessions that add to cart teach your ads to find more of them.
  • Hours to keep it alive. Theme edits, tag fixes and a pixel that breaks after a Shopify checkout change.
  • No way to check. Without a log you only find out after a bad month.

Example, not a customer: a store spends on ads, Shopify records 100 orders, and the ad platform sees 60. It optimizes toward those 60. The 40 it never saw are real buyers it learns nothing from. Fixing the 40 is the saving.

In short

Shopify server-side tracking with DataCops, in short

DataCops is a tool that sends every paid Shopify order server-side as a Purchase to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok and LinkedIn, express checkouts included, with the shopping steps before it and a log of every send.

How DataCops does it

1

Install the DataCops Shopify app

The app adds a web pixel and a theme app embed with a token-exchange install. It asks only for pixel and customer-event permissions, and Shopify's privacy webhooks are wired.

2

Every paid order, server-side

The orders-paid webhook forwards each paid order to your ad platforms from the server, so express checkouts count. A Purchase from the pixel and the server share the same order ID, so the order is counted once.

3

The shopping steps before it

AddToCart, InitiateCheckout, AddPaymentInfo and Search go to your ad platforms. Product views go only to the Klaviyo flow booster, never to ads.

4

The click survives Safari

One script and one DNS record collect on your own domain, click IDs are kept on the server for up to 90 days, and a signed server-set cookie lasts up to 400 days where enabled. With your DNS on Cloudflare, the free Worker reads the click at the edge.

5

Keep bots out, warm up, and fix Klaviyo flows

Every visit gets a bot verdict against 360+ billion IPs, with a Real people only switch per platform, off by default. Ads Warmup sends your customer list (up to 20,000, with a 0 to 10 match score) to Meta, Google Ads and TikTok. See Klaviyo abandoned cart flow.

6

Consent, analytics and proof

A first-party consent manager built on IAB TCF v2.2 and first-party analytics, a GA4 alternative, come from the same script. A delivery log row shows each send as sent, held, skipped or failed with the reason. A refund marks the Purchase refunded in DataCops but is not corrected on Meta or TikTok.

Best for: Shopify stores that advertise on more than one platform, want bots kept out, or want their ads and Klaviyo flows to see every paid order.

Free to start. See pricing.

When not to use DataCops

Meta only, with Shopify's own app

Shopify's Facebook and Instagram app uses the Conversions API when data sharing is set to Maximum, for Meta only. For one platform it may be enough.

You need refunds in your ad data

Refunds do not reach Meta or TikTok. Google Ads is corrected: a full refund retracts the conversion and a partial one lowers its value.

You want product views in your ads

Product views are not sent to ad platforms by DataCops.

You need in-store sales

DataCops has not verified point of sale orders through the Shopify app, and does not claim them.

FAQ

Shopify CAPI means sending your Shopify store events, above all the paid order, to Meta through the Conversions API from a server instead of from the shopper's browser. Because the event never depends on a browser script, ad blockers and Safari cookie limits cannot stop it. The same idea applies to Google Ads, TikTok and LinkedIn through their own server APIs.
