Seasonal businesses: should you warm up your ad account before the peak season starts?

Short answer

Audit tracking six to eight weeks before the peak, warm the signal with recent customers, run a small test and set stop rules.

Yes, and earlier than feels necessary, because the weeks before a peak are when the platform is cheapest to teach and the time to fix problems is shortest. Peak season is a bad moment to discover that your tracking is broken or your campaign is stuck in learning.

Think about what changes at the peak. Demand and competition rise, so cost per click rises. A campaign that is still learning at that point wastes expensive clicks. One that has already learned who buys can use the same budget better.

Start with the audit, about six to eight weeks before. Check that pixels, server events, deduplication and consent work, and that your conversion events are the ones you want to optimise on. Fix what is broken while traffic is cheap and results are low-stakes.

Warm the signal. If the account has been quiet, or the campaign is new, send recent customers and leads as conversion events so the system has real examples before the peak. Last year's peak buyers are a good description of who buys at peak.

Run a small test campaign in the shoulder period. Use a modest budget to reach the learning threshold on the event you care about, and check the creative and the offer. Use what you learn to set up the peak campaign.

Prepare the later stages. If your sales close after the form, make sure the CRM stages are being sent in time. During a peak, the volume of leads can overwhelm follow-up, and delays reduce quality.

Plan the reporting. Peak performance should be compared with the same period last year and with the warmup and test results, so you can tell what changed.

Keep a stop rule. Decide in advance what results make you scale up and what make you pause, so you are not deciding in a panic.

DataCops Ads Warmup sends your recent customers to Meta, Google Ads and TikTok as conversion events with a 0 to 10 match score per person, dated when you send, and its delivery log lets you check that your later stages are going out. It does not guarantee peak results.

When does your peak start, and what does your campaign look like six weeks before?

DataCops in short

For this question: DataCops Ads Warmup sends recent customers to Meta, Google Ads and TikTok as conversion events with a match score per person, and its log shows whether your later stages are going out.

DataCops is a tool whose flagship feature, Ads Warmup, sends the customers you already have to your ad platforms before a campaign spends, so a new campaign learns from real buyers on day one, alongside a bot verdict on every visit and the real sale sent back from your CRM.

How DataCops does it

  • Upload a customer list. A CSV of past buyers, old leads or booked calls; only email is required, up to 20,000 rows per upload.
  • A match score for every person. An estimate from 0 to 10 from email, phone, name, location, click ID and customer ID, before anything is sent.
  • Pick the event. Purchase, Lead, Complete registration, Add to cart or Schedule.
  • Send server-side. To Meta, Google Ads and TikTok, with a sent, skipped or failed result per person. Google Ads credits only people who clicked a Google ad.
  • Dated when you send. Each row carries the send date, not the old sale date. Preview is free; sending needs a paid plan.

Best for: new ad accounts, new campaigns and relaunches that have customers on file but no recent conversion history.

Ads Warmup: tell the ads who pays

Ads Warmup, DataCops' flagship feature, sends customers you already have to Meta, Google Ads and TikTok before a new campaign spends: upload a CSV (only email is required, up to 20,000 rows), see a 0 to 10 match score per person, pick the event, and send. Rows are dated when you send, and Google Ads credits only people who clicked a Google ad. Preview is free; sending needs a paid plan. Check your own consent basis for the list first. See Ads Warmup.

Ways to do this job

OptionBest for
DataCops Ads WarmupSending existing customers as conversion events, with a match score and a result per person
A customer list audience (Customer Match or a custom audience)Targeting or excluding people, which is a different job from teaching bidding
Waiting for conversionsAccounts that can afford to learn slowly

When not to use DataCops

  • Your list has no consent basis for ad use. Check your own consent basis for the list first. DataCops is not legal advice.
  • You have no customers yet. Ads Warmup needs a list of real customers or leads to send.

Put the audit date in the calendar now. It is the step most often skipped.
