ChatGPT Ads beta: how do you track the first campaign?

Short answer

Tag every destination, capture the visit and UTMs on your own domain, install the platform's measurement with matching IDs, and judge by real sales.

Treat it as a new channel with unknown quality and set up measurement before you spend: tagged links, a pixel or Conversions API if you can use it, and a record of what happens on your site and in your CRM. The platform's own reporting is only one view.

First, what exists. According to trade coverage of the launch, OpenAI opened a beta self-serve Ads Manager to businesses in the US, with cost-per-click bidding as well as cost-per-mille, and with a pixel and a Conversions API for measuring what happens after a click. Details are changing, so read the platform's own documentation.

Second, tag everything. Give each ad a destination URL with UTM parameters that name the channel, campaign and ad, so ChatGPT traffic is never lumped in with direct visits. Check in your analytics that it appears as its own source.

Third, capture the visit on your own site. Store the UTMs and any click ID at the first request, so a lead that converts later can still be tied to the channel. A form that passes them into your CRM is the simplest way.

Fourth, install the platform's measurement tools if they fit your stack, and give the browser and server copies of an event the same ID so one sale counts once. Test with a real action and confirm it shows up.

Fifth, plan to judge on outcomes. A new channel can look good on clicks and poor on sales, or the reverse. Compare against your CRM or store: leads reached, bookings, revenue. Decide your test budget and your test length in advance, and avoid reacting to a few days of data.

Be careful with early claims. New channels attract confident statements about conversion rates that are based on small samples. Run your own test.

DataCops does not list ChatGPT Ads among its connected platforms today, so it does not send conversions there. It can capture the visits and UTMs on your own domain, give each visit a bot verdict, and keep the sale from your CRM or Shopify so you can read the channel against real revenue.

What are you hoping to learn from the first campaign?

DataCops in short

For this question: DataCops does not send to ChatGPT Ads today, but it can capture the visits and UTMs, give each visit a bot verdict and hold the sale so you can read the channel against revenue.

DataCops is a tool that does the ad-conversion job without a container, warehouse or plugin: one script and one DNS record on your own domain, a bot verdict on every visit with a Real people only switch per ad platform, the real sale from your CRM or Shopify sent back to your ads, new campaigns warmed up with the customers you already have, and a log of every send.

How DataCops does it

  • First-party collection, no extra tool. One script and one DNS record put collection on your own subdomain; with DNS on Cloudflare, the free Worker reads the click at the edge before the page loads. A signed server-set cookie lasts up to 400 days where enabled.
  • Real people only. Every visit gets a bot verdict, with a Real people only switch per ad platform, off by default. Every form email is checked for disposable providers, domains with no mail server and an email risk score.
  • Every ad platform. Conversions go server-side to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok and LinkedIn, counted once against the pixel by event ID.
  • The sale after the form. HighLevel natively, any CRM by webhook, Shopify through the DataCops Shopify app.
  • A log you can read. A delivery log row per conversion, with the reason when it did not go. A TCF 2.2 consent banner and first-party analytics (a GA4 alternative) come from the same script.

Best for: teams who want better ad conversions without building or maintaining the pipe: lead gen, ecommerce, clinics, home services, B2B and agencies.

Ads Warmup: tell the ads who pays

Ads Warmup, DataCops' flagship feature, sends customers you already have to Meta, Google Ads and TikTok before a new campaign spends: upload a CSV (only email is required, up to 20,000 rows), see a 0 to 10 match score per person, pick the event, and send. Rows are dated when you send, and Google Ads credits only people who clicked a Google ad. Preview is free; sending needs a paid plan. Check your own consent basis for the list first. See Ads Warmup.

When not to use DataCops

  • You need custom tag logic or non-ad destinations. DataCops sends to ad platforms and is not a Google Tag Manager container.
  • You want a reporting dashboard. DataCops fixes what goes into your ads. It does not replace the reports you already read.

Before launch, write down what result would make you scale and what would make you stop.
