Conversion Tracking

On Your Own DomainEvery Send Logged

Conversion tracking tells your ad platforms which clicks turned into leads and sales, so they can find more people like them. Most of it still runs on a browser pixel. DataCops sends your conversions server-side from your own domain to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok and LinkedIn, matched to the ad click.

What is conversion tracking?

Conversion tracking is how an advertiser tells an ad platform that a visitor from an ad did something valuable: bought, filled in a form, booked a call or signed up. Each conversion is tied to the ad click that brought the visitor, so the platform can report which ads work and train its bidding to find more people who convert. Without it, Meta, Google Ads and TikTok can only optimize for clicks.

DataCops tracks conversions on your own domain and sends them server-side to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok and LinkedIn, with the ad click ID and hashed contact details attached. It does not replace your pixel. It sends what the pixel drops, and the sales that happen after your website.

DataCops sends conversions server-side from your own domain to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok and LinkedIn, matched to the ad click, including the sales that close later in your CRM.

What counts as a conversion

Any action you decide is worth paying for. Some happen on your website. The ones that pay the bills often do not.

On your site

Purchase

A checkout or order, usually with a value and an order ID. The strongest signal an ad platform can get.

On your site

Lead

A form fill, quote request or demo request. Easy to count, but it says nothing about whether the person buys.

On your site

Sign-up

A new account or free trial. Common for software, where the sale comes later.

On your site

Add to cart and checkout started

Steps before the purchase that help the platform find shoppers when sales are few.

After the site

Booked call or appointment

Often booked in a calendar or CRM, not on a page the pixel is loaded on.

After the site

Won deal or paid invoice

The sale itself, closed in your CRM, on the phone or in person. A pixel never sees it.

Two ways to track

Pixel tracking vs server-side conversion tracking

Both report the same conversion. The difference is where the report is sent from, and how much of it survives the trip.

Browser pixel

A script in the visitor’s browser fires the event straight to the ad platform. Easy to add, but it runs where ad blockers, Safari and closed tabs decide what gets through.

Server-side tracking

The event is collected on your own domain and sent from a server to the platform’s API, such as the Meta Conversions API or Google Ads conversion upload. Nothing depends on the browser finishing the job.

Why pixel tracking misses conversions

Why your pixel tracking undercounts

The ad platform can only learn from the conversions it receives. A browser pixel loses some on the way.

Klaviyo script in the browser
Viewed Product Blocked
Added to Cart Blocked
Ad blocker on

Ad blockers stop the script

Browser extensions block the Meta Pixel, the Google tag and the TikTok Pixel. The visitor converts, the platform never hears about it.

The ad click, in the browser
Day 1Ad click saved
Day 8Safari clears the cookie
Day 23Deal won
No click left to match

Safari forgets the click

Safari clears cookies set by a browser script after 7 days. A buyer who comes back next week looks like a stranger.

It sees the thank-you page. The booked call, the showed appointment and the won deal happen where it cannot follow.

Bots count as conversions

A bot that fills your form fires the pixel like a person would, and teaches your ads to find more of the same.

How DataCops tracks conversions server-side

Four steps from the ad click to the platform, run from your own domain.

  1. Step 01
    Saved on yourdomain.com
    fbclid from Meta Kept
    gclid from Google Ads Kept
    ttclid from TikTok Kept
Kept for up to 90 days

The visitor clicks your ad. DataCops keeps the click ID on your own domain for up to 90 days.

  2. Step 02
    One customer
    LaptopPhoneTablet
    Same person

The visitor converts. DataCops records the event with the click and hashed email or phone.

  3. Step 03
    Event match quality
    Good Poor
Fewer conversions matched to a person

Later sales from your CRM are matched back to that click by email or phone.

  4. Step 04
    Won deal sent
    Meta Sent once
    Google Ads Sent once
    TikTok Sent once
    LinkedIn Sent once

Each conversion goes to every platform you connected, through its server API.

Each send is logged per platform as sent, held, skipped or failed, with the reason.

Andrew Forsyth

“15 minutes to get server-side tracking live. After 3 days failing with another app and a DIY server-side Google Tag Manager, that alone sold me. Then support jumped on a Google Meet with me on a Sunday afternoon to finish the job. Nothing else comes close.”

See every conversion you send

A pixel fires and forgets. DataCops logs every conversion per platform with its status and the reason, so a missing sale has an answer.

  1. 1
    Click ID and contact details
Each conversion carries the click ID DataCops kept and hashed email or phone for matching.
  2. 2
    One purchase, counted once
A purchase with an order ID reaches each platform once.
  3. 3

Turn on Real people only per platform to keep bot traffic out of your sends.
  4. 4
    Nothing fails silently
Each send shows as sent, held, skipped or failed, with the reason next to it.

Pixel tracking vs server-side GTM vs DataCops

One tag per platform

After the form

Your pixel only sees the form

The sale happens later, in HighLevel, HubSpot, your CRM or on the phone. Offline conversions send it back to the ad click.

HighLevel

Install once for your agency and pick the sub-accounts to connect. Each stage is sent as HighLevel reports it. Cancellations, no-shows and lost deals are never sent, and you can switch any stage off.

Sends Form leadBookedShowedWon, with valuePaid invoice
Offline conversions for agencies

HubSpot

Pick the lifecycle stage that means a lead is qualified. DataCops holds each lead from your site, checks HubSpot every 5 minutes and sends the conversion when the lead reaches that stage. Leads that never qualify expire after 14 days.

Sends Qualified lead
For B2B teams

Salesforce, Pipedrive and any other CRM

Post the sale to your private DataCops webhook with the customer's email or phone, the value and the order ID. Your CRM can send it directly, or through Zapier, Make or n8n.

Sends Any stage you postValue and currencyOrder ID

Google Sheets and CSV

On a paid plan, upload up to 20,000 past customers or sales from a CSV and pick the platforms to send them to. Rows go out with the date you send them, so use it to warm up an ad account. For sales you add to a sheet every day, send each row through Zapier or Make to your webhook.

Sends LeadPurchaseSchedule
See Ads Warmup

Phone calls and sales

When a call ends in a booking or a sale, record it in your CRM, or post it to your webhook with the caller's phone number. DataCops matches the phone number to the ad click and sends the conversion.

Sends Matched by phone

Shopify orders

The DataCops Shopify app sends each paid order as a server-side purchase, so orders the browser missed still reach your ads.

Sends Purchase, with value

Your ads learn from what they are told. If that is only the form, they will find you more forms. Send them the sale.

Honest note

What DataCops does not track yet

Better to know now than after you connect.

No Microsoft Ads

Conversions go to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok and LinkedIn.

Stripe and Paddle payments are not sent

Send sales from your CRM, a webhook or a CSV instead.

Bot filtering is your choice

Real people only is set per platform and is off until you turn it on.

Refunds do not reach Meta or TikTok

A refunded sale stays counted on those platforms.

Set up conversion tracking

About 5 minutes per site. Keep your pixel, add the server-side send.

  1. Step 1
    code

    Add the DataCops script
One script and one DNS record, so every ad click is kept on your own domain.

  2. Step 2
    ads_click

    Connect your ad accounts
Meta, Google Ads, TikTok and LinkedIn, each with one-click sign-in.

  3. Step 3
    hub

Pick what counts as a conversion
Leads and purchases from your site, plus sales from HighLevel, HubSpot, a webhook or a CSV.

FAQ

Conversion tracking records the actions you care about, such as a purchase, a lead or a booked call, and reports each one to the ad platform that brought the visitor. The platform then knows which ads work, and its bidding learns to find more people who take that action.
